 With
a Degree in Film and a Diploma in Television Broadcasting, Katie
Tallo graduated top of her class in 1991. She started her career
with a bang by forming her own production company and producing,
writing and directing more than 35 half-hours of national television
in her first five years in business. There was a children's sports
series, a women's adventure series, several historical doc-dramas
and two television specials. Honoured as Ottawa’s best director
in 1996 for her debut short film, Katie went on to win two production
competitions (WTN/CIFVF “Healing the Spirit” Documentary
Contest and Rogers National “Canada’s Main Street”
Call for Proposals).
She was invited to participate in the prestigious Women in the
Director’s Chair Workshop at the Banff Centre for the Arts
in 1997. After writing and directing her first television movie
in 1999 for Chum Television, Katie directed a series of dramatic
shorts for Space: The Imagination Station and then went on to
write and direct a sci-fi musical series for The Comedy Network.
In 2002, she got the chance to write, direct and edit her first
feature film, Posers. On the heels of that film, Katie co-created,
co-produced, voice directed and co-wrote the animated series,
Just Jamie, for YTV. In the past seven years, Katie has won support
from The Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, OMDC's Calling
Card, CTV's Banff Fellowship and Telefilm Canada. She is currently
a partner in Bossy Pictures and lives in Ottawa with her husband
and daughter.
